SHILLONG: The State Cabinet has re-notified Meena Kharkongor as the chairperson of the reconstituted State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) after her term expired.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the tenure of the commission needs to be extended as the Social Welfare Department informed the Cabinet that it was difficult to get eligible members.
When the matter was taken up on Friday, the department, however, justified bringing in a new panel for reconstitution of the commission before the Cabinet. But the Cabinet asked the department to further examine the names.
The Cabinet, however, decided to reconstitute the commission with three names so far, including the chairperson and two members.
SCPCR will have one chairperson and six members.
