Doha:  India thumped Turkmenistan 3-1 in their final match of the 2018 AFC Under-23 Championship qualifiers at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium here on Sunday.

Goals from forwards Manvir Singh, Alen Deory and midfielder Jerry Mawihmingthanga in the 41st, 72nd and 75th minutes, respectively, helped India seal the match with two-goal advantage over Turkemistan.

Manvir scored the equaliser before heading to the half-time after India enjoyed fair share of possession.

Deory took no time to score after being brought in to play from the bench.

Jerry added to India’s advantage from the spot-kick after the side was awarded a penalty in result of the opposition players hand coming in the way while free-kick was being taken.

The lone goal from Turkmenistan came in the 13th minute from a free-kick by Hoshgeldi which curled in the bottom corner giving India goalkeeper Vishal Kaith no chance to keep the ball out.

India enjoyed most share of possession in the match forcing the opponents open up space and helping the side create easy chance on the goal.

India finished their campaign at the bottom of Group C and failed to qualify after losing their initial two matches 0-2 against Qatar and 0-1 against Syria.  (IANS)
