SHILLONG: Senior IAS officer HM Shangpliang on Friday submitted his reply to the show-cause notice issued to him by the government for taking part in a Congress party programme in Mawsynram as shown in a video clip.
An official source said on Monday that after the government fixed one-week deadline to reply to the notice, Shangpliang gave his clarification to the government.
Earlier, pressure groups and BJP wanted action against the official for addressing a party gathering on July 8 at Lawbah in Mawsynram.
Following the controversy, the Lawbah unit of the All Mawsynram Development Council (AMDC) had claimed that Shangpliang, health secretary and CEO of MHIS-III, was addressing the gathering on MHIS-III to allay the confusion over the scheme.
Sources said Shangpliang gave a similar explanation to the government in his reply.
A government source said the matter would be taken up at different levels before arriving at a conclusion and subsequent action.
However, it is known to a section of government officials and in the Congress circle that Shangpliang will contest from Mawsynram currently held by suspended Congress legislator and KHADC CEM PN Syiem.
The official is waiting for an opportune time to take voluntary retirement to be in the field for the 2018 polls, sources added.
