SHILLONG: UDP on Tuesday made it clear that the party is united in Sohra and rubbished reports about discontentment in the party following seat adjustment.
In Sohra, both UDP and HSPDP will field candidates as per the pre-poll alliance.
Sitting Sohra legislator Titosstarwell Chyne said three persons who spread disunity rumours — P. Nongrum, R. Synrem and I. Syiemlieh — were from BJP and not his supporters.
Recently, former Congress legislator PW Khongjee had joined BJP.
According to Chyne, he does not see any problem in the seat adjustment between UDP and HSPDP.
“I welcome the decision of the party and it is in the best interest,” Chyne said.
Besides Sohra, Mawkynrew, currently represented by Remington Pyngrope, and Mawthadraishan (Brolding Nongsiej) are the other two constituencies where the UDP legislators have to fight against HSPDP in what has been termed to be friendly contests’.
Pyngrope had expressed his displeasure over the seat arrangement.
However, Nongsiej does not have any problem with the decision, according to party leaders.
HSPDP will not put up any candidate against the remaining five UDP legislators — party president Donkupar Roy, Paul Lyngdoh, Metbah Lyngdoh, Jemino Mawthoh and Embhahlang Syiemlieh.
