Five held for violating NGT order

SHILLONG: Five persons have been arrested in Ri Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills for transporting and extracting coal in violation of the National Green Tribunal order.
In the first incident on July 25, police arrested Hankamnipaia Suchiang (23) and Ceremiky Ymbon (20) from Umling GS Road in Ri Bhoi around 10am while they were transporting coal in a truck (ML-04C-2643).
On the same day, the district magistrate and police conducted raid in Umpleng area in East Jaintia Hills and caught three labourers — Sadam Hussain, Anwar Hussain and Jabir Hussain — for extracting coal.
