SHILLONG: The chief engineer maintenance and small hydro, MePGCL in Shillong, said in a media statement that if the heavy rain continues in the catchment area of the dam, the reservoir may become full that may necessitate the opening of the sluice gates.
The water level in the Umiam reservoir rose to 3205.62 ft on Wednesday due to the incessant rain in the last few days.
Those living in the downstream of the reservoir have been cautioned against going near the banks of the Umiam.
“All efforts will be made to regulate the discharge of water through the dam,” the statement said.
