Scam-tainted former GMC official arrested in Byrnihat

GUWAHATI: Assam police on Thursday arrested the main accused in the tax collection scandal of Guwahati Municipal Corporation from a lodge at Byrnihat in neighbouring Meghalaya, police informed.

The arrested retired Accounts Officer, Madan Chetri, of the GMC was involved in a Rs 8 crore tax scandal that occurred in the GMC during 2011-16. He was absconding for a longtime before he could be arrested with the help of Meghalaya Police.
