BJP Kisan Morcha leaders press Centre for package

TURA: Leaders from the state BJP heading its farmers’ body, the Kisan Morcha, have in a national executive meeting held at Delhi on Wednesday called upon the Narendra Modi led government to provide a developmental package for farmers of Meghalaya  which includes establishment of a central agriculture university in Khasi Hills and ensuring farmers are given priority for the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) loans.
It was headed by state president of Kisan Morcha K C Boro, state vice president Bakul Ch Hajong and state general secretary Chiang D Shira attended the meeting of the Kisan Morcha national office bearers, state presidents and state general secretaries that was held at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.
While representing Meghalaya, they urged upon the centre to establish a campus of the Central Agriculture University at Barapani.
Another core demand of the Meghalaya delegation was for farmers to be given priority in obtaining the central government’s MUDRA loans that was launched by PM Modi in 2015.
The Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency Ltd funding is designed to support the micro business and start ups throughout the country.
Waiving off the Kisan KCC loans of farmers and providing them with power tillers or tractors at 75 percent subsidized rate, consruction of cold storage at every block headquarters, among others.
Later, speaking to The Shillong Times, K C Boro said, “These demands are for Meghalaya and the rest of the north east because our region has immense potential to grow in the agriculture sector given its climate and rich soil.”
