SHILLONG: NPP leader Conrad Sangma has termed the last-minute launching of schemes and policies by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma as election gimmick.
Conrad said on Thursday that if some of the initiatives would have been launched in the beginning of 2013, this would have been more useful to the people of the State.
He wanted to know why the chief minister had to wait till 2017, prior to the polls, to launch Mission Football.
“As per the Mission Football, the Government will spend Rs 560 crore for five years. But what is the logic in launching the project at the fag end of the term of the Government,” Conrad asked.
According to Conrad, if the scheme was launched in 2013, the Government by now would have assessed its impact over the last five years.
He said there is a growing desire among people for a change in the political situation in Meghalaya in 2018 as there is an overall disenchantment among all categories of people over the style and functioning of the present Government.
