Addressing a press conference here in the city on Friday, INTUC National President, DInesh Sharma said that hundreds of labourers, farmers and poor people in the country were committing suicide while the Union Government had apparently remained least bothered about it.

He further alleged that the Central Government had to pay around 27000 crores to the farmers in the country. “If they don’t pay the money to farmers, we will protest   outside Parliament,” he said.

Demanding a life insurance of Rs 10 lakh   besides medical facilities for the labour class, he said that labourers in the country should be registered for free at the labour commissioner’s office and Union Government should take care of the poor in the country.

The Union also slammed the NDA Government over the situation in Assam where floods created havoc recently. “Though people are suffering in Assam, the Central Government has not given even five rupees to the state,” he alleged adding that the state of Assam has gone 20 years back in terms of development under the regime of BJP Government.

On the other hand, the National General Secretary of the Union, Mehboob Hussain said that they would work to strengthen the Congress in the entire country so that the party comes back to power in the 2019. The delegation which is on visit to North Eastern states also met the top party functionaries of the Congress in Meghalaya.
