JOWAI: Assam Rifles personnel seized three weapons and 300 rounds of live ammunition from NSCN (IM) cadres in a vehicle check post set up by the force at Namphisa in Kamjong district of Manipur on Friday.
The check post was set up by Assam Rifles acting on a tip-off that cadres of NSCN(IM) were to pass through the area with consignment of illegal arms and ammunitions, a source in Assam Rifles informed.
The NSCN (IM) cadres were suspected to be involved in smuggling of weapons and ammunition and might have collected the same from a supplier from neighbouring Myanmar. The weapons and the ammunition were planned to be smuggled into Ukhrul town of Manipur.
