TURA: A holiday trip to the Garo Hills ended in tragedy for a 15-year-old from Guwahati who drowned in the swimming pool of a popular resort in Tura on Sunday.
Ishaan Swargiary from Guwahati’s Maligaon had come to Tura with four relatives. They were staying at Tree House Resort in Dakopgre.
Around 12.30pm on Sunday, Ishaan and his elder brother went to swim in the resort’s pool though neither of them knew swimming, police said.
Their plunge into the pool proved fatal for Ishaan while his brother managed to survive. Ishaan was taken to Tura civil hospital where he was declared dead.
Police are conducting a spot inquiry and West Garo Hills SP MGR Kumar said a security audit of all resorts will soon be taken in the light of the tragedy.
It is mandatory for a lifeguard to be present in any resort with a swimming pool that has a water depth of four feet and above.
Preliminary inquiry in the case shows there were life jackets and a rescue person at the resort.
