Criminal escapes from police custody

NONGPOH: A wanted criminal David Lyngdoh Marshillong alias `Bah Jyllud’ escaped from the custody of police after he had been handed captured and handed over to police of locals.

The criminal was captured by residents of Umdihar village at around 5 A.M. on Monday after he had committed theft in in residences of Franky Syngkil and Plester Syngkil of the village. The village authority after conducting an investigation into the crime committed by David, handed him over to Nongpoh police station who then sent him to Nongpoh Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical examination.

However, just before he could be subjected to medical test, the criminal made good his escape through a sliding window pane of the hospital. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the criminal who was sighted and photographed by villagers while he was escaping to the jungle nearby.
