NONGSTOIN: The NPP is gradually making its presence felt in Mawshynrut constituency.
The party organised a meeting on Saturday at Porla where over hundred supporters were present.
Gigur Marthong, one of the ticket aspirants of NPP for the 2018 polls was present in the meeting along with G. Nongbri, who is the Sordar of Mawmarin village, and other traditional heads.
Nongbri extended his support to Marthong and said NPP has the potential to become the ruling party after the 2018 polls.
Nongbri, while asking the people to support Marthong, added that Mawshynrut is yet to be developed as former leaders did not do much to improve the area. According to Nongbri, the road leading to Maweit has generated crores of rupees as it had facilitated coal trade, but the ruling party has not done anything to improve the situation.
He said though the present MLA of Mawshynrut constituency Witting Mawsor is a very learned person, he lacks leadership qualities and does not have any connection with the people.
“I am not saying that Witting did not do anything for the development of the area, but he is not from the ruling party and people should know that the HSPDP will never be with the ruling side,” Nongbri said.
Nongbri pointed out that though Marthong was not involved in politics, he had always helped the needy and constructed the roads for the people.
Marthong said that though he had supported former MLA Francis Pondit Sangma and Witting Mawsor in the past, they did not carry out any development initiatives.
“An MLA has a difficult job to do, but I am committed to mitigate the plight of the people,” Marthong said.
He told the people of Porla that they need not change parties, but they should vote for change which will ensure his victory.
Almost half of the people mostly HSPDP members, who attended the meeting, enrolled themselves as NPP members.
