TURA: Two police personnel, including a woman, are among five persons arrested in North Garo Hills for barging into a house and assaulting a family over a relationship dispute late Friday night in Resubelpara town of North Garo Hills.
The attack took place well past midnight of Friday at Dekachang locality of Resubelpara when the five attackers, that included a police couple, forced their way into the house of civilian Tezeng K Marak and assaulted him, his girlfriend and a sister.
The attack was allegedly led by the police couple Tesri K Sangma and her husband Shembordeny Kregar over a case of personal enmity with Tezeng who was reportedly married to Tesri’s younger sister Salchi but was now living separately.
The victim claims they were not married but was previously engaged.
According to district police chief D P Marak, all five involved in the attack, including the police couple of Shembordeny and his wife, were arrested on Monday for their involvement in the attack.
The others taken into custody include Tezeng’s estranged wife Salchi, her brother Jingjang K Sangma and Tediam M Marak.
They were initially arrested on Saturday but released on a bail bond the same day because of a medical report terming their injuries as minor.  However, an additional FIR filed by the victims’ families and a fresh review of their injuries led to the bail cancellation and re-arrest of all five accused.
The midnight attackers had caused grievious injuries to Tezeng, his girlfriend and his sister resulting in their hospitalization in neighbouring Assam.
The attackers have also been accused to taking away several thousand rupees from the victim Tezeng during the assault.
