SHILLONG: A social activist from Mawsynram, Banshai Marbaniang has petitioned Health Minister Roshan Warjri demanding inquiry against the Super Care Hospital located in the city.
Marbaniang in the petition alleged that a child, Risahun Iangjuh from Mawsynram was infected by ringworm (Khaid).
The girl’s family took her to NEIGRIHMS, however, the family was advised to go to Guwahati for further treatment.
The family accordingly took the girl to Guwahati Medical College but they had to return to the state due to financial constraints and later the girl was admitted in Super Care Hospital.
The activist, however, alleged that Dr. Thangkhiew, owner of Super Care, in a conversation with him told him that the hospital will conduct a plastic surgery as the girl has suffered 40 percent burn injury and since the surgery would be expensive, the Hospital would wait till the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) rolled out so that money required for the surgery can be deducted from the scheme.
“Therefore, Risahun stayed in the hospital for almost two months but she was discharged on July 29 without being operated,” he said.
According to Marbaniang, the father of the child was reportedly told by the hospital authorities to come back only after they get money for the treatment.
“I had a conversation with Dr. Anamika Mall, MBBS, DCH and Pediatrics and she informed me that the hospital was asking a financial support of about Rs. 3 lakh under the MHIS for further treatment of the girl, but they received only Rs 1.20 lakh on July 6 and therefore, they were silent without informing anything to Risahun’s parents until recently when the hospital asked them to leave,” he added.
When contacted, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, HM Shangpliang said that an enquiry will be conducted into the matter and action will be taken.
