SHILLONG: Cycling Shillong on Tuesday announced the much awaited mountain bike race to be held on Independence Day in the state with prize money worth over Rs two lakhs on to be won.
Over hundred participants from across the country are expected to participate in the 50 kms Enduro race officially called second edition of Green Pedal Shillong Challenge on August 15.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Abhishek Bhagotia, president of Cycling Shillong hoped that cycling would promote tourism, make people aware on the need to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion.
He stated that this year’s edition would be a high intensity uphill, Enduro Mountain Bike (MTB) race of 50 kms with a post event at the finishing line at Lad Smit.
The two categories for the race are MTB male and female with prize money worth Rs 2 lakhs for the winners.
This year’s race came after the success of the first edition organized last year with over 80 participants from several states.
