KHNAM slams Cong govt
SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), youth wing has flayed the State Government led by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for lack of development even after 45 years of statehood. In a statement issued here, Thomas Passah, president youth wing said, “Politics has become more like an individual’s business enterprise which in turn teach the voters to make some money during elections.” He added that the youth wing is yearning for a transformation.

Unclaimed body
Shillong: The Joint Director of Health Services (SS), Civil Hospital, Shillong has informed that a 65-year-old patient, identified as Krishna Chetri; C/o Umar Nath Rai (neighbour), Upper New Colony, was admitted in the Male Medical Ward-I, Bed No. 83 on June 26 at 8.14 am and expired on July 29 at 08.20 am. The Joint Director has urged the concerned relatives to collect the dead body from the Hospital Morgue within 3 days failing which the body will be send for disposal by the Shillong Municipal Board.

HYC memorandum to NEHU VC
SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youths Council (HYC), central executive committee has placed a memorandum to the vice chancellor of NEHU to give preference to indigenous people for teaching in NEHU. They added that preference to be given to indigenous people for the posts of professors, associate professors and assistant professors in different departments of the university.

18-yr-old steals money before eloping, father files FIR
SHILLONG: Abdul Akhtar Sheikh of Bholarbhita Chibinang village under Phulbari Police Station in West Garo Hills, lodged a complaint that on July 8, Sahabul of Freshatari village under South Salmara PS, Dhubri, Assam went to his residence and forcibly took away his 18-year-old daughter. His associate Babu Mollah helped them to flee away on his motorcycle. Later, the complainant found that gold ornaments valued around Rs. 85,000 and cash Rs. 1 lakh were missing from his house.
Miscreants steal army cables, 1 apprehended
SHILLONG: Two miscreants were apprehended for stealing JF (Jelly filled) cables belonging to the Army. Satwal lodged a complaint that on July 28, unknown miscreants stole 40 metres of JF cables belonging to the Army from Telephone Exchange, 101 Area and GE Shillong Complex behind Army Public School. The Army personnel managed to apprehend two persons, Samsul Jamal and Thullu of Punjabi Line, Iewduh and from their possession a polythene bag containing four pieces of cables were recovered. While the team was taking the duo to the police, both of them jumped from the vehicle and fled away. However, the Army search party managed to apprehend Samsul Jamal and handed him over to police.

World Breastfeeding Week from Aug 1-7
SHILLONG: Community Food & Nutrition Extension Unit, Ministry of Women & Child Development in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week from August 1 to 7 with various programmes at different places. Inaugural function and a one-day state level symposium on the theme ‘Sustaining Breastfeeding Together’ will be arranged on Tuesday. The programme will be held at conference hall of Directorate of Social Welfare, Lachumiere at 11 am.

Friendship Day celebrated
SHILLONG: International Friendship Day was celebrated by Inner Wheel Club of Shillong on Monday. The club organised an interaction between the underprivileged students of Buddha Vidya Niketan Secondary School and those from St. Peter’s School.
