Mawlyngad village head, FKJGP meet MeECL
SHILLONG: The FKJGP Mawlyngad Unit along with FKJGP Mawryngkneng Circle and leaders of Dorbar Shnong Mawlyngad met officials of MeECL to discuss the issue of power cuts in Mawlyngad village. The members met the executive engineer (EE) and demanded repair of the transformer as the students were facing difficulty. The members also met the Additional Chief Engineer, who looked after the transformer. The chief engineer assured the delegation of necessary steps to rectify the anomaly.
MPUF head denies benami claims
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF) president, Dawanpoimi Laloo, has rubbished the allegations of his benami transaction of a shop at China Bazaar in Jowai. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Laloo said he is the owner of the shop as he has valid documents. However, he admitted that he had purchased the shop in a hurry. “I have followed the policy of the NGOs to take away the business/trade from non-tribals. I should be appreciated for what I am doing,” he added.He went on to add that he is not against non-tribals in certain genuine cases and said that he would work as per the Constitution of the country that allows residents to move freely in and around the country. Laloo added that he will open 2-3 shops to show that indigenous people have the potential to do business.
Release of PMUY at Mairang
SHILLONG: Local MLA M. Lyngdoh has recently released the PMUY scheme in the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Mairang, West Khasi Hills District. LPG connections under this scheme will be released in the name of women belonging to the BPL family. For new LPG connection, cash assistance to the tune of Rs. 1600 will be given, which will cover the initial cost i.e. security deposit (Rs. 1250), regulator (Rs. 150), hose pipe (Rs. 150), administrative charges (Rs. 50), stove with 2 burners costing Rs. 999 and 1st cylinder refill costing Rs. 591 (approx) will have to be borne by the beneficiary. EMI facility is also available. An awareness camps will also be organised shortly, in all parts of the district. Women from BPL households, who do not have access to LPG connection, may apply for a new LPG connection (in prescribed format) to the LPG distributor in Mairang i.e. M/S Frontier Indane Gas Agency. While submitting the application form, the beneficiary will have to submit details like address, bank account and Aadhaar number (optional) etc. Only those families whose names feature in the SECC list will be considered.
WKH admin pushes for LED lights
NONGSTOIN: A kiosk has been set up at the deputy commissioner’s office here for easy availability of LED bulbs under the central UJALA scheme. More kiosks will come up at the block level including at Nongstoin MePDCL bill collection centre. West Khasi Hills DC Arunkumar Kembhavi said on Tuesday the scheme aims at promoting the use of energy-efficient lighting solutions in India. Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) procures high quality 9 watt LED bulbs from leading manufacturers and sells them to consumers at a rate much lower than the market price.In Meghalaya, UJALA scheme coverage is still low, especially in West Khasi Hills. The district administration has requested all citizen of West Khasi Hill to avail themselves of this facility.
PHE muster roll workers meet minister over demands
TURA: Muster roll workers in the PHE Department mt the minister recently and asked them to fulfil their demands for regularisation of job and filling of vacancies, among others. In a written statement to the department, General Secretary of the All Garo Hills Muster Roll Workers’ Association-PHE, Dalseng Sangma said the workers are demanding regularisation of their services as per the norms in the Office Memorandum of the Personnel Administrative Reforms (B) Department of 1996.Workers are also demanding appointment in 50 per cent vacant posts, creation of new posts in each division of the department, regular release of wages, payment of compensation to senior and retired muster roll workers and maintain 3 per cent job reservation.
Workshop for teachers held in Ampati
AMPATI: The ‘Avenues of Teaching for Tomorrow’ workshop on enhancing teachers’ effectiveness, which is being attended by 50 secondary and higher secondary school teachers of South Garo Hills, was kicked off here on Tuesday.The four-day workshop, organised under the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance and Counselling scheme, is the first of its kind being rolled out by Shillong-based Group Avenues, a brand synonymous with youth empowerment and human resource development in the North East and recognised as the region’s leading grooming and communication skills training initiative.Addressing the inaugural session of the workshop, Deputy Commissioner Cyril VD Diengdoh dwelt on the different aspects of education that teachers need to keep in mind and stressed on the need for teachers to enhance their skills.
Anomalies in WGH school functioning
SHILLONG: Mangrugri SSA UP School in Selsella block in West Garo Hills has sought the help of the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) to solve the problem of teachers’ post. A statement issued by AGHSSASTA said the school has appointed four teachers in the three sanctioned post and is dividing the salary for the sanctioned posts among them. Pointing out other anomalies, the statement said the teacher in the non-sanctioned post is also wielding power as secretary of CRC of Goramara. Also, the name of a permanent teacher, Protiva Hajong, was removed from the list.
