NEW DELHI: The AICC on Wednesday formed a 10-member Pradesh Congress Election Committee led by DD Lapang and Mukul Sangma as one of the members.
AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi told media persons that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the committee that was formed two days after Rahul Gandhi met Lapang and Sangma here.
The Congress’s delayed action comes amid reports of several legislators planning to join BJP in Meghalaya.
Some of the known dissident leaders, including Deborah Marak, found a place in the committee. Former Speaker Charles Pyngrope, who was defeated in the last polls, and RV Lyngdoh are also members.
The other members are MM Danggo, RC Laloo, Kennedy C Khyriem, Cherak W Momin and J Scoot Shylla.
Surprisingly, Congress MPs, Vincent H Pala and Wansuk Syiem, have not been included in the panel.
The Congress leadership, both central and state, had on Tuesday denied speculations that the party was contemplating dropping Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar from the state Cabinet.
