SHILLONG: Confusion prevails over the allotment of new portfolios to the ministers following the Cabinet reshuffle undertaken by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
The notification states that Deborah Marak would continue to hold Home Guards & Civil Defence, Printing & Stationery and Secretariat Administration Department.
However, the notification does not say anything about her earlier portfolio of School Education and Literacy.
The notification, prepared on August 2, bears the signature of the staff of some ministers who received the list on Friday.
When contacted, Marak said there might be printing mistakes in the notification and that the portfolios were yet to be finalised.
The notification also says that deputy chief minister RC Laloo would continue to hold his previous portfolios like food and civil supplies & CA, election, revenue and disaster management, home (passport).
However, it does not say a word about his earlier portfolio of reorganization, science & technology.
The previous portfolios which were held by Prestone Tynsong like PHE, DCA and border areas development have now been given away to the new entrant Celestine Lyngdoh. However, the notification which was prepared on August 2 does not say as to whom the portfolio of administrative reforms which Tynsong was holding has been allotted.
Another new entrant, Comingone Ymbon, has been given the portfolios of power, C&RD, which were once held by Sniawbhalang Dhar and it does not say a word about the other portfolios of home, jails and legal metrology which Dhar was looking after.
As per the notification, MM Danggo would now hold the two portfolios of PWD (roads) and parliamentary affairs while stamps and registration, which he was holding once, does not figure with his name.
The notification also says that the chief minister will hold all the other departments which are not allotted to any other minister.
When asked for clarity, Cabinet minister Zenith Sangma also felt there might be some printing errors as it was told to him that all the ministers would continue to retain their old portfolios.
