Sonowal requests Kovind to set up a Presidential Retreat in N-E

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minisyer Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday requested the President of India Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan to set up a Presidential Retreat in North East India while he called on the former at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

 

In response to the invitation extended by Sonowal for a visit to Assam, President Ram Nath Kovind readily agreed to and said he was looking forward to visit the beautiful and scenic State of Assam and the North East sometime in October-November, a communique from CM’s office here informed.

 

Referring to the Presidential Retreats which are located at Mashobra in Shimla and Bolarum in Hyderabad, Sonowal requested Kovind for setting up of a similar retreat in the North Eastern part of the country.

 

“A Presidential Retreat in North East besides the existing ones in North and South would symbolise the unity of the country besides signifying the unity of our diverse cultures and people of the country,” he added.

 

Kovind appreciated Sonowal for conceiving the idea of a Presidential Retreat in the North Eastern region and assured to look into the matter in right earnest

Exchanging pleasantries with Kovind, Sonowal presented him with traditional Assamese eri chador, cheleng and a gamocha.
