SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), Mawlai Circle, has assured the ASHA workers that it would present their grievances aloud before the state and central government.

At a meeting held with the ASHA workers on Saturday at Mawlai Basic School to discuss their problems, KHNAM leaders expressed concern that the salary of the ASHA workers was only Rs 1000 even as they had to shoulder a heavy workload.

The state has over 6000 ASHA workers and 300 ASHA supervisors who work under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and the meagre amount is not sufficient enough to run a family. Stating that the state government is in need of the services of the ASHA workers

to deliver proper health facilities to the people, KHNAM has urged the state government to turn its attention to the plight of the ASHA workers.
