SHILLONG: The BJP central leadership will decide whether the party should go it alone or opt for pre-poll alliance for the 2018 polls.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Sunday, State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said though the party is preparing for all the 60 seats, it is up to the central leaders to make a final decision on pre-poll alliance with likeminded parties.
Asked whether BJP will have a chief ministerial candidate for Meghalaya, Lyngdoh said if the party contests all the 60 seats alone, there may be a CM candidate. “However, if the central leadership decides to have a pre-poll alliance, then the issue of BJP declaring a party’s own CM candidate does not arise,” Lyngdoh said.Candidates’ announcement
According to Lyngdoh, the state leadership prefers early announcement of candidates so that they can prepare for polls.
“We would like to have early announcement of candidates and we are working towards that goal,” Lyngdoh said.
The issue among others is likely to figure in the meeting of the national party president Amit Shah during his visit to the state later this month.
