TURA: The Garo Hills unit of FKJGP has petitioned the DC of West Garo Hills to highlight the ongoing border dispute in Pedaldoba which is causing apprehensions and tensions among locals.
It was reported that after the order of setting up of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) by the Government of Assam, surveys are being conducted by the neighbouring state to demarcate and identify areas which will fall under the purview of RHAC.
FKJGP has said on such surveys, the surveyors have identified certain areas of Pedaldoba village under West Garo Hills to be a part of RHAC, which will de facto render those areas under the Government of Assam.
“We were also informed that even the office of the Range Forest of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) was identified as area falling under RHAC,” the organisation added.
FKJGP added that the mentioned areas were and are still bona fide parts of Meghalaya.
“The residents of Pedaldoba have called for meetings regarding the subject, which we fear may lead to dangerous consequences if not monitored and addressed by the authorities immediately,” FKJGP said.
The organistation urged the DC to immediately step in and engage its counterpart from Assam to address the issue so as to build confidence among the residents of the village and resolve the issue.
