NYK observes Swachhata fortnight

SHILLONG: The Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK)  Shillong is observing the Swachhata Fortnight cum Village Neighborhood Youth Parliament in East Khasi Hills District from 1st August till 15th August, 2017. This programme is supported by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, according to a Press Communique.

 

During these days, various activities such as awareness campaigns, sensitisation workshops, village cleaning drives, preservation of water resources, cleaning of public places such as village schools, community halls, CHCs campus etc., are being carried out by the National Youth Volunteers, along with the Youth Club members affiliated to NYK Shillong.

Till date such programmes are conducted in19 villages of different blocks of East Khasi Hills District including 3rd Mile Upper Shillong, Mawlai Kynton Massar, Tyrna, Laitiam, Umkor, Umsaw, Mawryngkneng, Pomlahier,Thainthynroh, Weiloi, Mawrasai, Dong Kynton, Upper Shillong, Laitryngew, Mawngap, Laitkor, Umtong, Mawphlang, Wahlyngkhat and Swer.

The activities in these villages were participated by community leaders, Durbar Shnongs, teachers and students of local schools and the volunteers from the local police stations. Such activities will be carried out further in different villages by NYKS affiliated Youth Clubs till 15th August 2017.

The District Youth Coordinator, NYKS Shillong, Dr. Salam D Singho, expressed gratitude to all sections of society who have supported this movement and also requested to support the upcoming programmes in the villages for this national cause
