BSNL to launch Wi-Fi hotspots in ten Shillong localities

SHILLONG:  This is an era of Wi-Fi and hotspots.  Realising the growing trend, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) would now launch BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots in ten areas of the capital city of Shillong.

K K Saxena, Chief General Manager for North East 1 circle on Tuesday told reporters that the   services for wifi hotspots would be launched within this month.

The areas where the services will be made operational are Police Bazar, NEIGRIHMS, CGMT office, Garikhana, Happy Valley, Rynjah Exchange, Forest Colony, JN Stadium, GMTD Shillong and ICAR complex.

The wifi hotspots will be launched in three segments- BSNL wifi, BSNL 4G plus and BSNL boradfi and customers can recharge from Rs 10 to Rs 1999 to use the services.

The hotspots would function within a range of Rs 50 meter to 100 meters, he said

In addition, the PSU is also planning to launch the wifi hotspots in 19 locations   of the state soon.

Responding to a query about the services in Meghalaya following the   implementation of International gateway from Bangladesh, he said that the gateway had improved the internet services in Meghalaya and in the region.

Sexena informed that data volume had now increased to 10000 GB from 3000 GB after the international gateway was laid in the North East region even as he added that the company had replaced all the   old BTS towers in Meghalaya with new technologies including    63 2G towers and   40   3G towers.

Meanwhile, the BSNL has also launched new plans like ASEEM and new landline plans with FMC of Rs   299 per month.
