Srinagar: Life was today crippled in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where three militants of Zakir Musa group of al-Qaeda were killed in an encounter with security forces.
A civilian was also killed when security forces fired pellets to disperse demonstrators near the encounter site.
The mobile service also remained suspended in the district for the second day today to prevent spread of rumours on social media.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate (DM), Pulwma has ordered closure of all educational institutions as precautionary measure. Business and other activities were crippled and traffic was off the road in the district though there was no strike call from any organisation. However, traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway and other south Kashmir districts passing through the district was plying normally. Work in government offices and banks was also affected. Train in south Kashmir was also running normally. According to the DM, class work from class 9th and onwards in all educational institutions of district Pulwama shall remain suspended today as a precautionary measure. Three militants of Zakir Musa’s group were killed yesterday in a gunfight with security forces in Pulwama, where a civilian died in subsequent clashes. The authorities have in the past suspended class work in educational institutes on many occasions as a precautionary measure in Kashmir valley, where all schools remained closed for over five months during 2016 unrest. People also observed strike in Quimoh area in Kulgam district alleging that security forces damaged window panes and other property last night.
Situation was normal elsewhere in the south Kashmir valley. UNI
