SHILLONG: The spirit of nationalism and love for the nation is warming the hearts of everyone as Meghalaya along with the rest of the country is gearing up to celebrate Independence Day on August 15.

Keeping with the spirit of the celebration and to spread the message of national integration, the women’s branch of the Reliance Life insurance on Friday celebrated pre-Independence Day by presenting badges depicting the Tricolour  to all the personnel of Sadar Police Station in the city.

The Tricolour badges were pinned to officers and cops from different ranks including traffic and CRPF personnel who are manning the  city.

The women staff of the insurance company appreciated the police personnel for their efforts in maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of the people. They also lauded the police personnel for their hard work and dedication.

The trend of observing the day of national importance in the capital city has changed as people along with their families come out in large numbers on August 15 which was not the case earlier. Even shops in the city usually remain open on August 15 since the last 2 -3  years and the government chips in  to  add flavor to the celebrations of I-day by organizing a host of programmes.
