SHILLONG: BJP national president Amit Shah has postponed his visit to the State and in his place, party leader Nalin Kohli will interact with religious heads and intellectuals on Saturday to allay fears about cow vigilantism and other issues.
Earlier, Shah was to visit Shillong on August 12 but it was deferred.
Several state legislators were to meet him during his visit.
“However, since the BJP president is busy after the Rajya Sabha polls and due to some political assignments in some bigger states, he will not come to the State in August or September,” BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Thursday.
The BJP national general secretary in charge (organisation), Ram Lal, who was camping in Shillong for the last three days, was to fix Shah’s programme in Shillong but due to his busy schedule, his visit will be announced later.
While Ram Lal left Shillong on Thursday, Kohli, the BJP national spokesperson and in charge of Meghalaya, will arrive on Saturday.
“As many as six religious heads of various groups have confirmed their participation in the meeting,” Lyngdoh said.
According to Lyngdoh, the purpose of interaction
with various sections of the people in the State is to convey to them that BJP is committed to taking care of the concerns of all irrespective of caste, creed and community.
