JOWAI: The chief executive member of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has clarified that there is no move to form a new non-Congress executive committee (EC) in the Council.
JHADC chief Thombor Shiwat told The Shillong Times that he and his executive members have no plans to topple the present EC as alleged by some members.
“I am trying to strengthen the Executive Committee and also the party in the district and have no plan to form any executive committee which is anti-party,” Shiwat said.
Sources also informed that the meeting that was held in Shillong discussed nothing regarding the formation of a new EC. However, a few members of the Congress were not invited to the meeting.
“If the move is from any other members, then I cannot say,” a source said.
There were reports on Thursday that a few members of the JHADC, along with Shiwat, were in the capital city to meet former minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to discuss about a new EC.
Dhar had denied the reports saying he was in Jowai.
The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee had recently summoned Shiwat and all party members. But as most of the Congress MDCs had expressed confidence in the leadership of the current chief, MPCC did not make any changes.
Sources also said some of the Congress MDCs of Jowai and Raliang LA constituencies wanted to be appointed CEM as the present CEM belong to Nartiang constituency whose MLA, Sniawbhalang Dhar, was dropped from the state Cabinet.
