SHILLONG: A farmers’ meet was organised by State Bank of India, Nongpoh, at Jyntru village on Friday. The meeting was part of the bank’s initiative to build relationship with the farmers and brief them about Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and other farming schemes launched by the bank. Dharmananda Banai, chief manager of the branch, advised farmers to take advantage of the low interest rate agriculture loans and avoid money lenders. Rajat Saha, chief manager (rural), RBO (Shillong), said farmers can opt for ‘Rin Samadhan’, the one-time loan settlement scheme for bad loans by paying 50 per cent of the loan outstanding and take fresh loans.
He also requested the gathering to diversify their activities by adopting more profitable agri-allied activities like multiple-cropping, organic farming, etc.
The meeting was attended by nearly 100 farmers from surrounding nearby villages.
