NONGPOH: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has assured that the existing road at Umsning would be “fully” blacktopped in October this year.
Rocky Marwein, the spokesperson of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Dorbar Shnong Umsning area, said the NHAI project director Rajiv Malhotra had during a meeting with the committee recently assured that the road would be fully blacktopped in October. The authority has been unable to execute the work because of the monsoon season.
The road on NH-40 is currently in a deplorable state with potholes just about everywhere and commuters crossing the stretch every day have to bear with bumpy rides. However, the authority said it would carry out temporary repair on the road. The committee had met the NHAI director to apprise him over the deplorable condition of the National Highway-40 connecting Nongthymmai Umsning to Umtrew village under Umsning area.
Eddie G. Kharbani, the chairman of the committee, raised concern on the present condition of the road.
The JAC urged the NHAI to take up the issue seriously and that the road should be repair at the earliest.
“The National Highways Authority should start filling the potholes on the entire stretch of the existing Umsning road as a preventive measure to avoid untoward incidents due to very poor condition of the road, Marwein said.
