Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia announced against each of 3 deaths due to tree-fall in city

SHILLONG: Meghalaya government has announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to each of the three persons who were crushed to death on a city road on Saturday last after a massive tree from Raj Bhavan campus uprooted on fell on the taxi they were travelling in.

East Khasi Hill district Deputy Commissioner, P S Dkhar informed that the ex-gratia amount to the next of the kin of the deceased would be provided from the State’s Disaster Relief Fund. The payment would be made after Independence Day.

The deceased were identified as Crustal Gayle Kharnaior (23), daughter of city-based artist Raphael Wajri of Mawlai Nongkwar Block-V, Paul L B Lyngdoh (70) and taxi driver Hubert Swer (35).

The district administration will provide reimbursement of expenditure of medical treatment of the two persons who were injured in the incident – Wannysha Ksoo (27) and Mewmemorial Whaling (51).
