Rescued boy gives testimony, says he was tortured everyday

SHILLONG: Dajied Kynsai Syiem, the 18 years old youth narrated the harrowing incident of being held captive at the hands of his kidnappers, who beat and tortured him every day.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Syiem said that he was held captive for 19 days, where he was taken to the forests and some houses.
Accompanied by his parents, Rijoysing Basaiawmoit and Golbest Syiemlieh, he said, “The miscreants kidnapped me at gunpoint, they even had sharp weapons and tortured me every day for 19 days. They intended to kill me but the police rescued me.” Syiem told his rescuers that he is from India. “The Bangladeshi cops then took me to a police station, they were very kind to me,” he added.
Donald Syiemlieh, a relative said he was rescued by Rafeeq Hasan Ghani from Sherpur on May 15 and on the same day he was taken to the Sherpur District jail.
“He was rescued after there was trans-border intelligence shared by the police officials of Sherpur and South West Khasi Hills police department,” he added.
Dajied said, “There were six of them when they kidnapped me and on reaching Bangladesh, I found that there were many. They are Bangladeshis and Garos who conversed in Hindi language.”Basaiawmoit, the father of Dajied said, “They demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore, which was then reduced to Rs 50 lakh, then again reduced to Rs 10 lakh.” The Syiemlieh members expressed their gratitude to the Bangladeshi police, South West Khasi Hills Police involved in rescuing Dajied.
