8 coal trucks seized, 6 arrested in Ri-Bhoi district

SHILLONG: Cases of illegal transportation of coal in violation of ban imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) continues unabated in the State as Ri Bhoi police on Wednesday detected eight trucks which were carrying coal illegally.

Six person have been arrested in this connection, police said. The trucks carrying illegal coal were seized from different places like Byrnihat, Umroi and Umiam in Ri Bhoi district.

It may be mentioned that countless number of trucks have been seized and many truck drivers have been arrested in recent past for violation of the NGT order.
