GUWAHATI: As flood situation in the State remained critical with the third wave of flood lashing 24 districts of the State, Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Wednesday visited flood-affected Morigaon district and spent time with the flood-hit in the relief camps of Modonabori in Hariabori revenue village, flood affected people in Shantipur village.
He took stock of the relief materials being provided at the camp inmates and directed district administration to make adequate arrangement for pure drinking water, medicines, sanitation and baby food.
The Brahmaputra and its tributaries have flooded large parts of Morigaon district affecting more than five lakh people in five revenue circles prompting district administration to set up 89 relief camps and 86 relief distribution centres in the district.
The Governor rode a speedboat to reach out to the marooned people at Modonabori revenue village, large of parts of which has remained submerged. The Governor who will fly to New Delhi on Thursday would apprise the Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the worsening flood conditions along with other issues and seek centre’s assistance to help the state to be out of the scourge of flood.
The Governor Purohit asked the Deputy Commissioner to immediately reach out to the flood victims with proper medical facilities. He asked the health department of the district to take care of the camp inmates especially aged people, lactating mothers and babies. He also took stock of the preliminary flood induced damages in terms of properties, crop land and of course cattle and assured flood victims to compensate with adequate intervention from the state and the central government.
