Warjri lauds police’s success combating insurgents

NONGSTOIN: Along with the rest of the country the 70th Independence Day was celebrated in great pomp and show, where around four thousand people gather at St Peter playground Pyndengrei to witness and participated in the celebration organised by the District Administration.

Meghalaya Minister for Health, Co-operation etc., R. Warjri, unfolded the Tri-colour and took the Rashtriya Salute of 33 Parade contingent including the district police, NCC, Scouts & Guides and school children of the District.

Addressing the gathering, R Warjri, while underlining the various schemes of the state and centrally sponsor schemes implemented for the wellbeing of the people in particular and the state as a whole, appreciated the service of the police department in their efforts to fight and combat insurgency in the state and the Army for their contribution in protecting the country. While recalling the contribution of freedom fighters she recollected the personal contribution by the patriots of our state ‘U Tirot Singh, U Kiang Nongbah, Patokan Sangma and others for the selfless sacrifice in the struggle against colonial rule. She urged public to renew one’s commitment to respond to the call of duty to serve people with love and compassion.

Other highlights of the day were cultural programme, various kid sports and games, the distribution of sweet and food packages to patients of civil hospital, S. Wolling Children’s Home, Nongpyndeng etc., prize distribution to the winner of the parade and the cultural programme, district awards to Aganadi workers and helpers of Nongstoin, Mawshynrut and Mawthadraishan, distribution of wheel chair, auxiliary crutch, hearing aid under ADIP Scheme through State resource center on disabilities affair (Civil Hospital Shillong). The attraction of the day was patriotic song presented by the Officers Club West Khasi Hills District Nongstoin headed by the Deputy Commissioner, Arunkumar Kembhavi.

At Mawshynrut civil sub division, K Khyriem, MLA, unfolded the National Flag and took the salute of 17 parade contingents at the celebration which took place in the BDO’s office ground Riangdo. The programme ended with a football match where Tynrong Mawsaw beat Seinduli – I by 2-1 goal.
