2 killed in road mishap near Tura

TURA: Two persons died after the two-wheeler on which they were riding was hit by a speeding Tata Sumo on national highway 51 at Asanang near here on Wednesday afternoon.
Anil Alom of Mendipathar and a woman, Nithpilash R Sangma of A’kremgre Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills had left Tura en route to Bajengdoba riding the scooty when the Tata Sumo (ML08 D 4600) coming from Shillong with passengers rammed into it at Jendragre village in Asanangre, 18 kms from here.
While Nithpilash who was riding pillion, died on the spot, Alom succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Tura civil hospital from the Asanang primary health centre where he was earlier admitted.
The Sumo had reportedly crossed over from its lane and veered into the path the two-wheeler was taking. The impact was so tremendous that Alom, the rider, was flung out several feet away.
The driver of the Sumo, Mackson A Sangma, has been arrested.

Sumos and Wingers as well as other commercial public transport vehicles plying on the highways of Garo Hills have often been charged with excessive speed endangering the lives of the passengers and other travellers on the road.
