HYC to take out protest march on Aug 22 demanding urgent development in WKH

NONGSTOIN: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Nongstoin circle on Wednesday announced that a protest march and mass rally would be organised from Nongstoin to Shillong, a distance of 93Km, to protest the negligence of the state government in bringing about development in West Khasi Hills District.

The Council has decided to hold a mass protest march from Nongstoin to Shillong on August 22 2017.

Lumlang Kharsyiemlieh, President HYC Nongstoin Circle informed that the march would start at 11 am. “41 years have passed since we got our own district but we are still in the same position development wise since the state government has taken no initiative for bringing about development,” he said.

Kharsyiemlieh said the demands included facilitate proper road connectivity in Nongstoin, setting up institutions like a government college, a vocational training centre, a harvesting centre, ITI, playground, health care facilities, blood banks. The organization also demands introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP).

Kharsyiemlieh said that the council had sought appointment with the Chief Minister since 2015 but in vain.

HYC members from the central body which include Roy Kumar Synrem, Organising Secretary Isaac Basawiamoit also attended the meeting and informed that the central body had decided to strongly support on the same issues moved by the HYC Nongstoin circle.

The HYC also seek the support from the people of West Khasi Hills as well as NGOs of the District.
