SHILLONG: Miscreants pelted stones at BSF personnel after they apprehended a Bangladeshi national at Balughat outpost in South West Garo Hills.
On the night of August 14, the BSF troops of Balughat BOP apprehended the man and seized three cattle, a machete and a broken wire cutting tool from a place between BP No. 1075/2-S and BP No. 1075/3-S. Later, when the BSF personnel were conducting search in the area, miscreants pelted stones at them.
The 28-year-old Bangladeshi cattle smuggler has been identified as Md Anish.
In another incident, Sanjiv Kumar, Company Commander at the border outpost in Gomaghat in South West Khasi Hills lodged a complaint that on August 11 night, unknown persons breached the Indo-Bangladesh border fencing in the area of BOP Gomaghat near BP No. 1203/7-S in between IBB Picket No. 171 and No. 172 with mala fide intension to smuggle cattle.
BSF seizes cattle
The Border Security Force troops at Lyngkhat in East Khasi Hills have seized 30 cattle which were being smuggled to Bangladesh.
A statement issued by BSF said the force is co-ordinating with police for thwarting smuggling in the region.
In another incident, BSF troops at Umkiang and Dona in East Jaintia Hills seized two vehicles loaded with cattle. The troops found 15 cows.
