SHILLONG: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has allotted 42 medical seats from the central pool to students of Meghalaya following the state’s recommendations.
The decision to increase the allotment of seats to 42 for Meghalaya is a record setter as earlier the Union ministry was allocating only 26 seats for the state.
State Health Secretary HM Shangpliang said besides the 42 seats, 35 are also allocated to students and the total number of seats will be 77.
Of the 35 seats, 13 will be allocated to Regional Institute of Medical Science, Imphal, nine to NEIGRIHMS, 10 in Assam and three in Tripura.
“The process of allotting the seats will be taken up by the State Government in a week’s time,” Shangpliang said.
