SHILLONG: The Congress unit in Mawkynriew constituency has got a shot in the arm after more than 1,000 people joined the party on Saturday.
The induction into the party took place in the presence of MLA Kennedy Khriem, who is also the East Khasi Hills District Congress Committee president.
Speaking to media persons, MPCC president DD Lapang said the Congress has footprints in Meghalaya “which cannot be diluted”.
“As elections are coming, people in Mawkynriew have realised that it’s time to join the Congress,” Lapang said.
The 1,000-odd people joined under the leadership of Trispin Surong, vice president of the Block Congress Committee Mawkynrew and Marila songthiang President mahila mawkynrew block.
