TURA: The failure of the State Government to initiate any kind of construction work on the proposed Kharukol PHC in South Garo Hills, the foundation stone for which was laid nearly ten years ago in November 2007, has irked the National People’s Party (NPP) which accused the ruling Congress in the state of duping the people by making false promises.
The foundation stone for the PHC was laid by the then Health Minister under the National Rural Health Mission, the completion of which would have benefited people from villages like Rewak, Rongchekgre, Emangre, Nengkong, Balkal, Malengma, Choklok, Kharukol, Tainang, Rongrengpal, Rongru Asim, Alokpang, Gokagre, Adinggre, Arteka, Dawakol among others.
The NPP while strongly condemning the Congress for its apathy towards the region has warned that the people would give a strong response for such treatment in the upcoming 2018 Assembly Elections.
“I wonder how many such projects and schemes of the Congress are lying abandoned in the entire state. Is this the kind of development that the party is talking about? The people of the state should be aware of the dirty politics that the Congress is playing,” NPP leader, Rakkam A Sangma said.
Stating that people are capable of judging the performance of the Government, Sangma urged it to desist from playing ‘foundation stone laying politics’ just for the sake of votes.
“We welcome any kind of inauguration if the actual undertaking of a project is involved. However, foundation stones should not be for mere ‘decorations’,” Sangma added.
