Order against littering in Demseiniong and Nongmynsong
SHILLONG: The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills, has issued an order banning littering in public places around Umkaliar, Demseiniong and Nongmynsong areas. The District Magistrate directed all persons and concerned agencies to maintain cleanliness in and around the vicinity of the areas and business areas aforementioned; to ensure segregation of waste and proper disposal during and after business hours; to ensure no indiscriminate dumping of garbage around the vicinity of these areas and to ensure drains are not clogged or overflowing and if so to take up the rectification of the same with concerned authorities immediately.The order states that these areas experience footfall of patients to NEIGHRIHMS and the public alike on a daily basis and it was necessary to reinforce the matter of cleanliness in the interest of the health and welfare of the general public at large and the image of the city. The District Magistrate also warned of stern action against the defaulters.

Drowned teenager’s body found in South Garo Hills
TURA: The body of a 16-year-old boy who drowned in the Bugi river in South Garo Hills three days back has been found on Monday. Walsado M Marak of Ruga village had gone swimming with a group of friends around 11.30 am on Saturday when he was washed away by the strong current. The place of the tragedy is approximately 15 km from Dalu-Barengapara border town of West Garo Hills district. Despite a search launched since Saturday his body could not be found till Monday morning. It was spotted about 4 km downstream on the bank.

 

Diploma course for SSA teachers
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) has urged the untrained SSA teachers to register themselves for the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) training by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). The association has also asked teachers to approach the Sub-Divisional School Education Officers before registering online to furnish the necessary documents. The teachers will have to pay Rs 4,500, which is the D.El.Ed fee.

Biker hits pedestrian in Ri Bhoi
SHILLONG: Two persons were injured severely in an accident in Ri Bhoi on Sunday. The incident happened when a motorcycle hit a pedestrian around 5 pm. The bike after hitting the pedestrian skidded off the road leaving the motorcyclist, Fajlu Ali (18) and the pedestrian Mater Kharwan (50) seriously wounded. They were both shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital.

GSU seeks CM’s intervention on poor mobile network
TURA: The poor condition of BSNL mobile network services in Nongalbibra region of South Garo Hills has prompted the local regional unit of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) to take up the matter with the Chief Minister. In its letter addressed to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, the union informed that although there are a number of mobile towers including that of the BSNL in the region, service being rendered continues to be pathetic in places like Nongalbibra, Rongkandi, Jadigittim and Rongsa Awe (Mingkul). Stating that people from the region were suffering due to the poor network conditions the union has urged the Chief Minister to personally look into the matter.
