Officials urged to help villagers to adopt innovation to boost farm output

SHILLONG: Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, P Sampath Kumar on Tuesday asked the officials to help  villagers adopt innovative ideas which are ecologically sustainable for more and better production in farming, breeding in order to achieve the dreams of an economic growth model in villages.

 

The senior officer was interacting with members of the Village Employment Council (VEC) at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills, R Lyngdoh and senior government officials, according to an official communique.

 

Kumar interacted with the people and discussed about their problems and experiences, he also shared his ideas and suggestions on how to develop and expand their livelihood activities. He laid stress on the need of creating more Self Help Groups (SHGs) in order to make significant improvement in their livelihood activities by utilizing human as well as financial resources which areavailable through the MGNREGS.

Kumar also urged district officials to take initiatives in creating multi source of livelihood activities for villagers and providing them with support system which can sustain them for a longer period.
