Victim examined by court in Dorphang rape case

SHILLONG: The minor girl who was allegedly raped by Mawhati legislator, Julias Dorphang, was   examined by the Court here on Tuesday.

Sources informed that altogether, there are 43 witnesses which are to be examined in the court in connection with the case

Prior to the victim, only the chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Meeena Kharkongor   was examined by the Court.

Sources further informed that it would take a long time to examine all the witnesses

Julias Dorphang, a former leader of the banned Hynnewtrap National Liberation Council (HNLC), was elected to the Assembly from Mawhati Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) in 2013 election.

Dorphang who is now in judicial custody, faces charge of rape of a minor girl in a guest house in the city and in a resort in Ri-Bhoi last year.

After remaining absconded for many days the MLA was arrested from Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Guwahati.
