GHADC employees to protest over pending salary
TURA: Employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) who are yet to receive over 11 months’ pending salary have announced a sit-in demonstration on August 28 as a mark of protest against the authorities. The employees, in a meeting held under the banner of the Non Gazetted Employees’ Association on Tuesday, have also decided to press for a CBI inquiry into the reasons behind the Council’s financial crisis. The GHADC staff are also planning a silent rally if the authorities fail to give a positive response by August 28.

 New PS in South GH
Shillong: For public convenience and better administration, the state government has notified for the creation of a new Police Station at Sangkhinigre in South Garo Hills District to be known a Sangkhinigre Police Station. On creation of the Sangkhinigre Police Station, the areas coming under its jurisdiction shall cease to be under the Chokpot Police Station.

PHC promise fails
TURA: The failure of the State Government to initiate any kind of construction work on the proposed Kharukol PHC in South Garo Hills, the foundation stone for which was laid nearly ten years ago in November 2007, has irked the NPP in Baghmara which accused the ruling Congress in the state of duping the people by making false promises. The foundation stone for the PHC was laid by the then health minister under the National Rural Health Mission. While strongly condemning the Congress for its apathy towards the region, the NPP has warned that the people would give a strong response for such treatment in the upcoming 2018 Assembly Elections.

Quarrying, sand mining ban
Shillong: The Sub Divisional Magistrate, Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, East Khasi Hills District, has promulgated an Order under Section 144 of the CrPC in the Sub-Division which restrains any person, company or authority from illegal  stone quarrying and sand mining in the hill slope and removal of sand from river-bed without obtaining permission/license from the competent authority. This order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.

MHRC awareness
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) in collaboration with the office of the District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat organised a one-day awareness programme on human rights for the students at the secondary and college level on Tuesday at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School.

NGH gets first ATM
RESUBELPARA: North Garo Hills got its first automated teller machine on Monday. The Resubelpara branch of State Bank of India started the ATM making it convenient for locals and residents of the adjacent areas.
