SHILLONG: Dr. Vincent T. Darlong has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Martin Luther Christian University.
Darlong has an eminent record of achievements in academics and community projects. He completed his PhD on “Impact of shifting cultivation on soil fauna” in 1987 from NEHU, Shillong.
His key areas of
professional exposure and interests are in natural resource management and livelihoods, community based biodiversity conservation and community forestry, and in environment and social impact assessments.
Darlong has published numerous scientific articles and technical papers and authored several books and book chapters.
He has highlighted the issues faced by the indigenous people in North East India in rural farming, livelihoods, forestry and land rights. He has served in the IFAD for 13 years. Darlong has also chaired various expert committees of the Government of India and international agencies. He is a frequent speaker at international seminars on environment and biodiversity.
