Railways will create employment avenues for Meghalaya youth: Gowda

SHILLONG: Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda on Thursday batted for introduction of railways in the state as it would pave the way for creation of large number of employment avenues for the youth of the state.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday after reviewing the e-status of Central Government schemes like Support for Statistical Strengthening scheme, MP-LAD schemes, the status of railway connectivity, NHAI and NEIGRIHMS, Gowda said that the railways would even promote tourism in the state manifold.

He asked all the stakeholders to hold comprehensive discussion on the issue and said that he would also raise the matter with the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma

Meanwhile, he said, the Union Government had sanctioned projects worth more than Rs 9000 crores for construction of NEIGRIHMS cancer wing, National Highways, International Centre for art and culture besides expansion of the railways network to the state.

He also expressed his happiness over the satisfactory utilisation of MPLADS scheme by three MPs from the state saying 95 per cent of funds available under MPLADS had been utilised by the three MPs.
